1. I understand that the company mainly focuses on feasibility studies and safety-related documentation; I know little about construction processes. Both design departments are responsible for preparing safety-related documents. Apart from learning some regulations related to safety facilities, general layout requirements, how to draw process flow diagrams, and how to interpret such diagrams, as well as knowledge regarding fire protection plans, lightning and static electricity prevention measures, explosion zones, and equipment placement, I haven’t received any training from the company. The general idea is that if a medium is flammable, explosive, corrosive, toxic (or has other physical and chemical properties), then corresponding standards and regulations will set specific requirements regarding its storage, transportation, processing, etc. For example, there are requirements as to the minimum distance between storage tanks, the minimum distance from office buildings and residential areas, the fire protection design requirements for nearby equipment and facilities, the required amount of water for fire-fighting equipment, how to conduct pressure tests during construction, and the pressure rating requirements for the materials used in the equipment. One aspect affects everything else; many specialized aspects of design, construction, and future operation and maintenance involve special requirements for sensitive media.

Then you’re basically useless. That might sound harsh, but it’s the truth. Why do you want to do this right after starting work? Such companies can be found all over the country; most of them use someone else’s qualifications and fabricate information. What can you learn from that? Your company still has two rooms; many companies only have 3 desks and 3 computers, as long as they can get work.

To be honest, I’ve seen many design companies like this – reputable design firms provide end-to-end services, from the initial planning stage through to detailed design and general contracting. Things like safety reports and environmental impact assessments are merely additional tasks carried out by our process engineering and hydraulic engineering teams. It seems like there’s really nothing more you can learn here
But I see that you mainly focus on equipment layout, general design specifications, and process flows – which is a good direction and also your main area of expertise. You’ve just graduated, so it’s fine to start with the basics and gain more experience in this area; it’s not a bad thing. But you must have a clear understanding of your role and keep a low profile. You’ve just graduated, so there aren’t many great opportunities available for you to take on. If you work in the field of craftsmanship, the first three years are mainly spent observing, learning, and asking questions. Get familiar with the standards.
When you first start working after graduating, learning is of top priority, especially for those in the field of design. Moreover, not everyone can join a large design firm right after graduation; one must first get familiar with the industry and gradually build up experience in order to achieve success. Not all small design companies allow people to earn money without any learning at all.
It seems that this firm, as operated by the poster, merely uses the name of a design institute; it mainly deals with things like special reports and feasibility studies (and it’s likely that it’s not even capable of handling more complex feasibility studies). Such tasks are, in actual design institutes, carried out as part of routine work. Either switch jobs quickly, or if there’s no good option available, start working on a few projects right away, gain some experience over one or two years before changing jobs – such a place isn’t suitable for staying long-term.
