I have been working for over five years now; I transferred to another company within the same group. I’ve been here for a few months now, and when the group company started recruiting, I checked and found that my qualifications met the requirements. According to the procedures, I needed approval from my current company before I could apply for those positions, but they kept delaying approval. Today I mustered the courage to call the HR department, and the manager said that the company has too few employees, so it’s not possible to release anyone – after all, how can production continue if the staff leave? After hanging up the phone, my mood plummeted to rock bottom. Does maintaining stable production mean sacrificing employees’ personal opportunities? Besides, I’m just an operator after all. Sigh, I’m in a low mood all day; it seems like I’ve really stepped into a pit of trouble this time – the future looks utterly bleak! !

In the recruitment process for state-owned enterprises, you know, it’s just like a competition to select the best candidate; you simply happen to ‘look the part’. Although you are just an operator, someone who does the actual work at the grassroots level, to use an inappropriate analogy, you’re like the animals used for carrying goods in the village. Of course, they won’t let you go easily. It’s not that they’re trying to use official rhetoric to get something from you; think about it – your salary as an operator is so low that the risk of trying to extract profit from you is high while the reward is low, so there’s no point in doing that.
Well, I never even considered applying for positions at particularly good companies. But in recent years, there have indeed been some jobs that I consider to be better than those of operators – jobs that don’t require shift work. Many people applied for such positions. Yet here at my current company, I’m not allowed to do that at all. Well, to be honest, unless a certain organization is sure it wants to hire me, I might speak frankly with my supervisor about it. But right now I’m still working at this organization, and for any hiring party to want to take you on, you first need to apply for the position, right? If you can’t even apply, how can they hire you? So, I really feel regretful now for coming here; perhaps I have reached the end of this system, and maybe it’s time to get out of it
