Introduction to Mathematics for Children: Addition and Subtraction
Thread Content
Mathematics is a science that studies the spatial forms and quantitative relationships in the real world; people’s clothing, food, shelter, and transportation all rely on mathematics. Mathematics is an important skill that needs to be developed from an early age. So, how should we teach children the basics of addition and subtraction in mathematics? In fact, parents can teach their children math in everyday life, using mathematical methods to help develop their quick thinking skills. I. Concepts in Mathematics1. Number concepts
Counting aloud, numbering, recognizing and writing numbers, one-to-one correspondence, sets, decomposition and combination, addition and subtraction operations, carrying, ordinal numbers
2. Quantity concepts
Amount, size, length, height, weight, thickness, area, volume, capacity, units, time, speed
3. Graphical and spatial concepts
Basic plane figures, basic solid figures, spatial position, pattern composition
4. Logical relationship concepts
Reasoning, relative positions, classification, parts and whole, sequences, order, cause and effect, probability
II. Math learning methods that children don’t dislike
1. Counting aloud
For example: “Two tigers,” “I have a pair of small hands with ten fingers in total,” etc. Relevant nursery rhymes 2. Counting casually: Count the number of steps on a staircase together with your child; when eating fruits, count together and say things like “There are 5 apples in total – one for mom, one for dad, one for the baby. How many are left?” 3. Drinking water Drink a little water at a time; if more water is added to the cup, the amount of water increases. A similar approach can be used to teach children the concept of more and less.
