This post was last edited by ylb913 on 2015-8-20 at 13:56. Nowadays, our workshop mostly uses magnetic pumps for handling polluted fluids. Specifically: ordinary centrifugal pumps are used for the lean amine liquid, magnetic pumps are used for the acid water at the top of the regeneration and stripping towers, and all rich liquid pumps are magnetic pumps. But my thinking is that, aside from the fact that acid water pumps cause unacceptable pollution of the atmosphere due to seal leaks, ordinary centrifugal pumps can be used for the other pumps used in sulfur-containing wastewater treatment processes, such as the pumps for rich and lean amine solutions, as well as the pumps used for quenching sulfur. Shielded pumps and magnetic drive pumps rely on the lubrication of their graphite bearings by the medium itself, which makes them too fragile. For sewage stripping, a vertical canned pump was used in 1996 and is still in use to this day; it has hardly been repaired or stopped at any point (I once wrote a dedicated post on this: because of it, the backup pump for the sewage feed water hasn’t been used for over 10 years). It is the only canned pump in our workshop. During that period, including in the later stages, several magnetic pumps were installed; one of them is still in use today, but it has not been operated. Later, one of the magnetic pumps was removed, and a regular centrifugal pump with a mechanical seal was installed as a backup for the shielded pump. When the plant undergoes shutdown for major repairs or when it is necessary to clean the sewage tank at any time, an old, small pump with a packing seal is used for pumping from the bottom of the tank (it was a 40 t/h pump when the plant was first built in 1990; its capacity was increased to 100 t/h in 1996, and it is now 160 t/h). Shielded pumps and magnetic drive pumps cannot be used.
Centrifugal pumps are generally used more often. Shielded pumps are generally suitable for materials with low flow rates; centrifugal pumps are used for high flow rates
I asked a few manufacturers, and it’s true that magnetic pumps are commonly used for acidic water. As for amine solutions, there are various types available; ultimately, it will have to be decided by the higher authorities
Centrifugal pumps are generally used for purified water and rich/poor liquid transfer. . . The reflux pumps and acid water pumps are usually magnetic pumps (they offer good sealing, but are prone to failure; their mechanical seals can be corroded). It is also necessary to consider the processing capacity – determine how many units are needed and leave some headroom for future use. Common applications include coking, hydrogenation, catalysis, and heavy oil processing. If there are only two units available, it’s best to leave some extra capacity, so that no additional pumps will be required if more units need to be added in the future
A regular centrifugal pump will work just fine; we’ve been using one for 10 years and it’s performing well
Are there any with double-end face seals?
This is a question regarding the tolerance for seal leakage and abnormal odors from the device. The purpose of using shielded pumps and magnetic drive pumps is that they do not suffer from mechanical seal leakage issues.
