For plate and frame filter presses, it is better to choose between cross-flow and end-flow configurations. What are the differences between cross-flow and end-flow?
Of course, it's better to choose the undercurrent. The difference between surface flow and undercurrent lies in the manner in which the filtrate flows out. The outlet of the clear flow is located below both sides of each plate; a receiving trough or tray is necessary, and the filter press must be raised to create a liquid level difference. Otherwise, an additional pump is required in order to allow the filtered liquid to be drained. Leaks will certainly occur between the plates, which will lead to contamination of the filtered liquid. With hidden flow, there are no such problems; the filtered liquid flows directly through pipes, under a certain pressure, which allows it to reach a certain height. Moreover, a plate is installed below the filter press to capture the liquid that leaks between the plates, and this liquid is then re-filtered using a tee connection
Of course, the submersible type is better – it has a low leakage rate, allows air to be used for drying the cake, and it’s also possible to choose a model with a pressing plate. It’s just that the cost is a bit higher, and replacing the filter cloth is a bit more troublesome.
