I’ve been looking for shims recently. Since the data available isn’t complete, and I’m not a mechanical engineer – I’m in the field of chemical engineering – I have some questions I’d like to ask the experts here. 1. What is the relationship between compressive force and preload? 2. Can pre-pressure be used to calculate the area and number of shims? 3. Since multiple bolts are used for the storage tank, when calculating Q2 (the pressure distributed on that set of shims due to the tightening of the foundation bolts), is Q2 related to the number of foundation bolts? Is it simply a proportional relationship? For example: the designed strength of the concrete is 30 MPa, the operating weight of the equipment is 5 t, M16 anchor bolts are used (with a pre-tensioning force of 70 KN), 8 anchor bolts are employed, and the safety factor is K=2.3. In the calculation of shims, the compressive force and preload are the same thing; they represent the force or load applied to the shim as a result of tightening the bolts, and it is also referred to as load. Preload can be used to calculate the area and number of shims. In the calculation of tank shims that you mentioned, Q2 is proportional to the number of foundation bolts; the more foundation bolts there are, the less Q2 each set of shims has to bear.
