When calculating the foot bolt seats for tower vessels, what margin is generally given for the cover plates and foundation ring plates – just doing the calculations is sufficient? What about the skirt base cylinder?
There are no strict requirements; as long as the computational needs are met, the thickness specifications need not be too numerous – it’s best to use common specifications that are easy to purchase.
It can be done through calculation, and there is a recommended value in the standards
Subject to meeting the standard requirements, it is recommended to provide a margin of 4–5 mm for the cover plate and base ring plate, and a margin of 1–2 mm for the skirt cylinder.
