In chemical and petroleum plants, purge conditions are typically specified for the equipment. For low-pressure vessels, these purge conditions are much higher than those under design conditions. How is this issue addressed during the design process? What I would like to ask is: 1. How is purging carried out in the device? Is the purging time long? Is it necessary to conduct verification calculations for this purging process? 2. If a verification calculation is required, should the allowable stress be calculated using 0.9 times the yield strength at the design temperature? 3. Should reinforcement for the openings in the pipe fittings also be taken into account in the verification calculation?
If the user or the process specifically specifies a purging condition, then the equipment design must also take into account the verification of the equipment under such purging conditions (the equipment must be able to withstand various severe operating conditions), and hole reinforcement calculations must also be included.
How is purging carried out in the device? Is the purging time long? Is it considered an instantaneous operating condition? Some people say that during purging, only the inlet pressure is high; in reality, due to condensation and pressure drops, the pressure inside the equipment isn’t that high. Is that true? Has anyone who has done it in person shared their experience?
