A recent liquefied natural gas well project required control valves that could regulate fluid flow into the well as well as fluid flow out of it. In other words, this control valve can regulate bidirectional flow. Some colleagues suggested using Flowserve ball valves, while others recommended Fisher straight-through valves. I think ball valves might be suitable for bidirectional flow, but I’m unsure whether straight-through valves (globe valves) can be used in this situation. Colleagues, what type of two-way fluid control valve are you using?
For straight-through valves, if the pressure difference is not significant, there is no major problem; If the pressure difference is large, the directions of the unbalanced forces acting in different flow directions differ, which may prevent the control valve from functioning properly.
A single-seat valve will work; provide both differential pressures to the manufacturer to verify the actuator. The pressure in the gas well must be very high, right? @jiaguoyun
Ordinary control valves all have flow direction restrictions. If it is necessary to control the two-way flow, it may be required to consult the regulator manufacturer in detail. So far, I have not encountered control valves with such requirements. In the case of a regular control valve, connecting it in the wrong direction may result in high noise levels; this depends on factors such as pressure and differential pressure, and it can affect the service life of the control valve. I hope to get the final solution to this problem and learn from it.
