The company has installed a new plastic tank for mixing the medicinal solution, to which ethanol is added. Realizing the issue of static electricity, it was conceived to add a stainless steel strip from top to bottom inside the tank to ground it and eliminate static electricity. Will this result in static electricity being removed at the location of the stainless steel strips, while the static electricity in other areas remains unaddressed? Do you all have any other good suggestions? Since it is the pharmaceutical industry, static elimination fluid cannot be added.
There’s no need to add anything; ethanol is completely miscible with water, so what are you worried about!
Plastic containers cannot release static electricity; instead, they accumulate it. Using conductive wires to discharge static electricity is a viable solution. The stainless steel strips you use need to have a resistance value that is suitable for enabling static discharge. There’s no need to worry about releasing only those around. As long as static electricity does not accumulate and can be released in a timely manner, that’s fine. It is generally recommended to use copper wires as ground wires
Using this method on storage tanks is risky; it is generally applied to pipelines, as the pipelines are full during transportation, and thus there is essentially no Zone 0. The intermediate wire is close to the tube wall, making it easy to eliminate static electricity. There is a Zone 0 above the interior of the storage tank, posing a high risk of electrostatic ignition. The static electricity near the pipe wall is difficult to eliminate.

If it is a solution of alcohol and pure water, it basically does not conduct electricity; use a metal container instead. If it is alcohol and tap water, there is no major problem, as tap water contains substances such as chlorine bleach, which contain electric ions and thus has good electrical conductivity; therefore, the possibility of static electricity building up is essentially none.
If you’re really worried, you can first do an experiment by using a smaller plastic container as a simulation.
