For the valve J41Y-100 – knowing that it is a globe valve and that its sealing material is chromium-molybdenum steel – how can one determine the material of the valve body and the materials used for connecting the valve? Is spectral analysis of valves done on the connection flanges and the valve body? Hope experts can answer, thank you
J41Y-100: J denotes a globe valve, 4 indicates flange connection, 1 refers to a wedge-type, solid stem, elastic single-disc design; Y means that the seat sealing material is a hard alloy (tungsten carbide and STL are commonly used). 100 indicates a nominal pressure of 100 kilograms. There is also a code between J and 4 that indicates the mode of operation – since this valve has a handle, this code is not necessary. As for the material of the valve body, it either isn’t specified in the model number or isn’t available at all. If nothing follows 100, then the valve body is made of carbon steel; if the model number isn’t complete, then the information can be found on the valve itself. This valve is forged as a single piece; to check the material, it is sufficient to test the valve body or the flanges. Of course, if it’s not a hassle at the site, all of them can be tested.
