The hydrocracked diesel is light yellow-green in color, but colorimetric analysis results show no change in its color. The temperature at the inlet of both the refining reactor and the upgrading reactor was increased by five degrees, yet the diesel remained light yellow-green – could this be due to the properties of the raw material?

Pale yellow-green may be the result of aromatic hydrocarbons forming a substance that affects the color of the entire diesel fraction. It is caused by the high content of aromatic hydrocarbons in the raw materials.
Later, we analyzed the aromatic content in the crude oil and refined diesel; the aromatic content in the crude oil was less than 20%, while that in the refined diesel was less than 2%. Yet the color remained the same, which is probably due to the high aromatic content in the crude oil. . .
It is recommended to consult with catalyst suppliers. When I evaluated catalysts in my laboratory previously, some of them used catalytic diesel at 8 MPa and 365°C; although they achieved high removal rates for aromatics, sulfur, and nitrogen, the resulting oil was yellow-green in color.
