Whether to use a soft button on the monitoring terminal or a hard button on the auxiliary control panel depends on the requirements of your process engineering team. Generally, for ordinary remote control, it can be implemented on the monitoring screen ; If it is related to safety, a physical button can be installed to facilitate manual operation in the event of an accident. The principle is the same in all cases; it is through the opening/closing of the DO card contacts and the intermediate relay contacts that the connection to the power supply circuit for the pump is controlled.

Generally, a button is created on the HMI, which might save some money; of course, an emergency stop button can be provided on the control panel for important functions. If the pump is to operate, the design of the pump outlet valve must be taken into consideration.
It depends on the importance of this pump; if it isn’t involved in the process interlocks, a DCS soft switch can be used (one that can be activated by clicking with the mouse); If this pump is important, install a physical button on the auxiliary control panel and connect it to the DCS card
