Everyone should be fairly familiar with explosion-proof cranes. It is very simple to wind the steel wire rope on them; the rope is wound around the drum or pulley grooves. Although the winding process is simple, we must not overlook its importance, as it is related to safety performance. Sometimes, it is also used to enable steering or to reduce effort. So, what is the winding method used for the steel cables of explosion-proof cranes? To achieve better performance, steel wire ropes are usually wound around lifting blocks. The two most common methods for this purpose are the straight winding method and the cross-winding method. Straight threading is relatively simple to perform – one only needs to wind one end of the steel cable around each pulley of the lifting block one by one. However, this threading method has its drawbacks: when there are many pulleys in the lifting block assembly, it’s easy for the cable to become skewed. Therefore, this winding method is more suitable for lifting blocks with four or fewer pulleys. Although the operation process of the flower threading method is a bit more complex, its results are better than those of the straight threading method. It effectively overcomes the problem of skewing in lifting pulleys, thereby improving the stability and safety of crane operation.
By putting on the steel wire rope, the crane operator has already passed half of the test.
There are also the methods of instant pass through, flower pass through, and double start pass through; these are related to the number of doors. For 3 or fewer doors, it’s instant pass through; for 4–6 doors, it’s flower pass through; and for 7 or more doors, it’s double start pass through
