For coal-based syngas, after partial shift followed by methanation, if it is to be used as fuel gas, isn’t it sufficient to use the syngas directly?
It’s just my personal opinion; I welcome any feedback: Industrial fuel gases include water gas and semi-water gas. For civilian use, the risk of CO poisoning must be taken into account; meanwhile, methane can be used as a vehicle fuel.

The process route is far inferior to those for coal-to-oil and coal-to-olefins, right?
Coal is converted into syngas, which is then partially reformed and subjected to a methanation reaction to be used as fuel gas. . . . . . . It would be utterly unreasonable if coal-to-natural gas were ultimately used as fuel gas to power boilers! Such a process is not worth considering, as it causes more pollution and has lower efficiency.
Developing coal-to-natural gas is part of the energy strategy, and its advantages become evident when oil prices are high.
