I would like to ask fellow sailors: what is the detonation limit of diesel? I checked online and there are many different statements: The first one is that the lower limit is 0.6% and the upper limit is 7.5%, as stated on page 62 of the **Comprehensive Book of Chemical Safety Techniques, 3rd edition**. I couldn’t find the book *Comprehensive Handbook of Chemical Safety Technology*, Third Edition ; The second type: detonation limit – 1.3~6% for gasoline, 0.7~5% for kerosene, 1.5~4.5% for light diesel; no data available for heavy diesel. One can consult the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) online, where relevant hazard data is available in full. What exactly is the detonation limit of diesel? Is there an authoritative standard? I’d like to ask everyone for advice!

I think the reasoning isn’t sound; there are various grades of diesel with different viscosities, so I guess the explosion limit varies as well
