These past few days, my attention has been focused on commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression; perhaps it’s because the Tianjin accident seemed rather trivial, as there doesn’t seem to be much coverage of the explosion incident that occurred at Shandong Binyuan Chemical Co., Ltd. Dongying Net News: At 23:22 on August 31, an explosion occurred at Binyuan Chemical Co., Ltd. in Di Kou Township, Lijin County. By 4:20, the open flame had been extinguished. According to the news on the **China·Dongying** portal website, as of 12:00 on September 5, the search and rescue operations at the site of the \"8.31\" fire accident at Shandong Binyuan Chemical Company in Lijin County had been essentially completed. After more than four days of continuous and thorough investigations as well as search and rescue operations in the rain, a total of 13 dead persons were found (one more than the figure announced yesterday); their identities have all been confirmed, and no further missing persons were discovered. Due to the complexity of the chemicals that leaked at the scene, some of the deceased had their bodies fragmented as a result of explosions, making it difficult to identify and compare them, and thus prolonging the process. Of the 25 injured persons (with minor injuries), 14 have been discharged, while 11 remain in the hospital for observation and treatment. Compensation agreements have been signed one after another; the bodies of some of the victims have been cremated, and the relatives of the victims are emotionally stable. All wastewater on-site has been pumped into the emergency accident tank for harmless treatment. It’s trial production again; originally, the plant intended for trial production following the explosion in Huantai was not allowed to operate before the parade. It seems this factory started operating without permission.

Private enterprises do not use proper channels when seeking technology, and the technical evaluations are not thorough, which leads to tragedies recurring time and again.
I feel less and less confident about working in the chemical industry; the salary there isn’t much higher than in other industries either.
It’s about recklessly tampering with equipment, making arbitrary changes to the manufacturing processes, and having operators who lack proper training; they always think it will be fine and that nothing bad will happen.
In many cases, processes in areas such as fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals are developed independently, pieced together, or adapted, with only the focus on getting the product out; no risk assessment is conducted, and others are not informed about it. Scaling up or conducting tests according to established procedures is not done, leaving production safety uncertain.
How were it able to pass various safety, fire protection, environmental protection, and occupational health and safety inspections? 13 deaths should be enough to draw attention; otherwise, similar accidents will happen again.
If things continue like this, I guess I’d better cherish my life and stay away from the chemical industry
Regulatory authorities should not wait for submissions or reports; instead, they should conduct proactive inspections. It’s not possible to expect all companies to comply with regulations obediently.
