Internal structure of a packed tower: A packed tower consists of components such as the tower body, spray device, packing, liquid redistributor, packing support device, supports, and inlet and outlet ports. The purpose of installing liquid redistributors between the different layers is to redistribute the liquid evenly across the cross-section of the tower, thereby preventing wall flow from occurring. The liquid distribution devices installed in different locations serve the same purpose but have different structures. To distinguish them, the liquid distribution device located above the top layer of packing is called a spray device, while those installed between the layers of packing are referred to as liquid redistributors. Working principle: The liquid enters the tower from above and is evenly sprayed over the cross-section of the tower through a liquid spraying device. Gas enters the tower from the bottom and rises through the free space between the packing particles, exiting from the upper part of the tower. The gas and liquid phases flow in counterflow within the packed tower, allowing for thorough contact and thus achieving heat and mass transfer.
