I would like to ask those who are aware of the rated values for various parameters: what are typical values for overreporting, underreporting, significantly overreporting, and significantly underreporting? Such as current, temperature, pressure ; For example, the outlet pressure of the process water pump is 500 kPa under normal operation; there are two pumps, one in use and one as a backup. At what level below this value should the backup pump be activated via interlock? What is the typical value for this pressure interlock setting? Is it 1/3 of the rated pressure? I earnestly hope for the expert’s guidance; it’s urgent!
The exact alarm values should be determined by the process engineers, as they are the ones who operate the system; this is not something that should be overridden. Limits such as the high limit and low limit are equipped with interlocks; they are provided by the design institute. The instruments do not have the authority to set these values, nor can they do so.
We are the designers, but we’re new to this field and lack experience in determining such values. It seems that the experienced staff just pick values arbitrarily, and those values have to be changed again during on-site testing. Is there any standard? For example, should it be 80% of the rated value if the value is reported as being too low?
