I have no knowledge at all about fiberglass storage tanks, but I need to prepare a document on the manufacturing process of such tanks. I did some research online over the past couple of days; however, there is still one thing I don’t understand: are the lining, structural layer, and outer layer of a fiberglass storage tank each cured separately? Is curing carried out in a curing furnace? And for very large fiberglass storage tanks, such as those that need to be manufactured on-site, how is curing done in that case?
No curing oven is required. It is the resin itself that cures naturally. The thicknesses of the inner lining layer, structural layer, and outer surface layer are determined by calculating based on volume, properties of the medium, and density. The very large storage tanks were fabricated on-site. Currently, the on-site vertical winding method is generally used.
Did it cure naturally at room temperature? Was some other method used? If it’s natural curing, then how long does it usually take for the curing process to be completed?
It usually sets in about ten minutes. You don’t need to worry about this. There is a difference between the fiberglass used for storage tanks and that used for linings.
