Before entering the reforming unit, naphtha is generally desulfurized through pre-hydrogenation purification; the process of desulfurization using chemical adsorption is rarely used nowadays. Zinc oxide is sometimes used for chemical adsorption desulfurization.
As mentioned on the 2nd floor, precision desulfurization tanks are generally installed for light stone and aviation kerosene; the adsorbents used are mainly iron oxide and zinc oxide. Heavy stone does not require such tanks because it is fed directly into the reforming unit, where it mixes with the material coming from the pre-hydrogenation reactor of the reforming device before entering the stripping tower. Hydrogen sulfide is removed within this tower through stripping, so there is no need for chemical adsorption at an earlier stage.
The main components of heavy naphtha desulfurizers are nickel, copper, and zinc; among them, high-nickel desulfurizers contain more than 42% nickel.
