The top draw rate is calculated through material balance, and then the reflux ratio required by the process is multiplied by this top draw rate to obtain the reflux volume. In actual production, adjustments can be made according to the specific circumstances. Increasing the reflux ratio within a certain range can improve the quality of the product at the top of the tower, but it will increase the load on the tower, raise the pressure difference across the tower, potentially lead to flooding, and increase energy consumption. Conversely, reducing the reflux deteriorates the product quality at the top of the tower, and the tower load decreases.
L=D*R; the reflux volume varies with the amount of product extracted and the reflux ratio. To increase purity, it is possible to raise the reflux ratio – but this increases the load on the condenser. Q=V*Hr
