I recently encountered a project involving a chemical plant that had workshops and warehouses of types A, B, and C. Before the release of the 2014 version of the building codes, automatic fire alarm systems were installed in such facilities. The new codes, in Chapter 8.4, state that buildings where flammable gases may be released should be equipped with gas detection systems; however, regarding whether an automatic fire alarm system is necessary, only guidelines for industries such as shoemaking and cotton processing are provided. What are your thoughts on this? Should it be installed? Why not use an automatic fire alarm system? Or rather, should a manual alarm system be used?
