When I was in school, there was a song titled “University Dorm Room” that depicted the reality of university dorm rooms back then; it became quite popular among students. I wonder if anyone still remembers it? I wonder if it’s still that difficult to find a dorm room in universities these days? "The weather is nice today, with gentle winds and sunny skies. I’m not the kind of person who likes to go to study rooms regularly; I lack focus. Besides, those who usually go to study rooms do so in pairs or in groups, while those who go alone are top students. So I only go there on the eve of exams to join the competition for a study room. The teaching buildings in our school range from old to new; the newer classrooms are equipped with air conditioning and are clean and tidy, which is why they are highly competitive places. But for someone like me, I have no chance of getting there; someone else has already settled there and doesn’t even go to eat there. I’m the kind of person who only stays there from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., so there’s no way for me to compete. As a second choice, there are those large lecture halls – they have plenty of seats, and sitting at the back allows one to observe the distribution of the girls in the front. However, there is one downside: there is a high level of movement around, with people coming and going constantly in the aisles. For someone impulsive like us, it’s easy to accidentally follow them out and not return. What’s left are the old classrooms – small rooms with around 30 seats, a blackboard, and a lectern, the typical setup of a classroom. The people who are there usually keep a low profile; the atmosphere for studying is very strong, making it an excellent place to copy exam outlines. As the song says, the biggest problem here is that, when you’re not paying attention, some girl with a backpack will walk up to the lectern and start writing furiously, writing on the blackboard things like “It’ll happen again tonight; thanks for your cooperation.” This is the study room in our school. Although I’m not exactly the kind of person who studies hard, I must say that the study room was indeed an important part of my college life. Sometimes, when I think about the ample time available in college, sitting quietly in the study room for a few hours seems like a great idea. These days, it’s already 7 p.m. by the time I get home; sitting quietly is not as good as lying down and sleeping. With this writing, I pay tribute to my lost youth!
