On August 25, 2003, the demolition work of concrete oil storage tank V106 in the crude oil storage area of the Storage and Transportation Department at the Anqing branch began officially, marking the end of the use of concrete crude oil storage tanks in the refining operations of the Anqing branch. The concrete crude oil storage tank was manufactured in the early years of the plant’s establishment in the 1970s, and it played a significant role in the refining operations at Anqing Petrochemical Complex. Over time, these concrete crude oil storage tanks developed leaks, resulting in waste of raw materials used in production and environmental pollution in the surrounding areas. Moreover, as they are made of concrete, they have poor anti-static properties, posing risks to safe operations. The No. 106 concrete crude oil storage tank that was demolished this time was the last concrete crude oil storage tank at the Anqing branch; it was a water storage tank equipped with fire suppression systems back in earlier years. The amount of soil required for the protection of this tank is 27,000 cubic meters, and the demolition work is expected to be completed by the end of September. Over the past few days, the workers from the Jianan Company, which is responsible for the tank demolition work, have been working overtime to ensure that this task is completed on time and to a high standard. By then, the concrete crude oil storage tanks will be phased out of use at the Anqing branch as part of its refining operations; they will be replaced by large, safe steel crude oil storage tanks, thereby laying a solid foundation for safe production.
