SH3012-2011 on methods for draining hydrogen pipelines: 6.2.3 Layout of hydrogen pipelines – a drain should be provided at the lowest point of the pipeline； 8.1.4 states that venting or complete drainage should not be provided for hydrogen pipelines. . . Are these two statements contradictory? If a drain is not provided at the lower level, can’t a hydrostatic test be carried out? How do people set it up in engineering?
There is no conflict at all. The full text states: “6.2.3 The slope of pipelines for transporting wet hydrogen should be no less than 0.003, and a drain should be provided at the lowest point of the pipeline.” ” Note that it’s wet hydrogen – did the original poster delete the previous sentence? Since wet hydrogen contains liquid condensate, a drain outlet must be provided. Clause 8.1.4 uses the word \"should\" rather than \"strictly prohibited\", which means that it is advisable to do so in most cases; in special situations, design should be based on the actual circumstances. When reading specifications, one must be careful and use one's brain.
