8 m3 of heat transfer oil with a freezing point of -20°C is used for hydrogen production via methanol cracking. In winter, when the temperature drops to -30°C, all of this oil is transferred into a 12 m3 oil storage tank that is insulated; however, the pipe leading from the bottom of the tank to the outlet valve is not insulated and is 20 cm long. Under such conditions in Xinjiang’s winters, when the equipment is not in use, is it possible to fill the oil storage tank with oil? What dangers could arise if oil is poured in?
