I am a technician in hydrogenation units; the naphtha, which is a by-product of diesel hydrogenation, is intended to be supplied as raw material to ethylene production units. What are the requirements for naphtha in those units? Sulfur content? Nitrogen content? Final boiling point? Ethylene cracking is a thermal cracking process, and the target products are small-molecule olefins; therefore, it is required that as large a proportion as possible of the naphtha feedstock consists of straight-chain alkanes, that is, the P component should make up as much as possible in the PONA composition analysis. Additionally, during the cracking process, it is necessary to prevent coking in the cracking furnace tubes, and the sulfur content must be kept within a certain range; the amount of sulfur added is determined based on the sulfur content of the naphtha after hydrogenation. The nitrogen content should be as low as possible. No specific regulations are generally set for the boiling range. The heavy metal content should be as low as possible.
