The replacement of the clay in the white clay column used for aromatic extraction has always been the most time-consuming task in the plant; whenever it’s time to replace the clay, everyone has to get involved. Are there any good practices or new technologies that could help address this issue?
The extraction unit I have in use has been operational for ten years; by optimizing its operation, neither the liquid-liquid extraction nor the distillation extraction systems has required any replacement of the alumina filler. Yet the product quality remains that of high-quality benzene-545, with a melting point of 5.55, and no corrosion has occurred. The heat source for the reboiler can be changed from medium-pressure steam to low-pressure steam, thereby saving energy and reducing consumption.
