In the chlor-alkali production process, there are multiple points where the ORP value needs to be measured, and this is determined by the properties of the materials used in chlor-alkali production. The ORP value represents the intensity of the redox nature of a solution, and is expressed as a potential value. When saline contains oxidizing components such as hypochlorite and chlorine, the ORP value increases. When sodium sulfide is added, due to its reducing property, it consumes the oxidizing components such as hypochlorite and chlorine, causing the ORP value to decrease. The ORP value also needs to be controlled for the concentrated brine entering the tank, while testing the ORP value of the dilute brine exiting the tank is used to determine the relative amount of free chlorine. Additionally, the ORP value also needs to be monitored when producing sodium hypochlorite.
Monitoring free chlorine facilitates the main controller in adjusting the dosage of dechlorination materials, ensuring the quality of brine fed into the resin tower.
As a supplementary point, what is likely to be affected more quickly and visibly is the resin in the resin tower, which gets oxidized and thus sees its adsorption capacity reduced.
