Regardless of the type, positive displacement flowmeters have similar basic components. ① Measurement section: This is the main body of the flow meter, which includes a rotor as well as a metering chamber formed by the housing and cover plates. Under the action of the fluid, the rotor rotates continuously, and its rotation speed is proportional to the volume of fluid flowing through it. ② Sealed coupling: The speed of the rotor needs to be transmitted; during this transmission, it is necessary to ensure that no fluid leaks out, while also avoiding excessive resistance. There are usually two types of couplings: one is a magnetically sealed coupling, and the other is a mechanically sealed coupling. Since there is no leakage issue with magnetic coupling, magnetic seal couplings are generally used. ③ Governor: The rotor rotates at high speed, so a gear set is needed to reduce its speed in order to meet the requirements for reading and signaling. ④ Display section: This is the reading area of the flow meter, which usually includes either a pointer indication or a counter for counting. ⑤ Transmission section: The transmission section converts the flow signal of the medium under test into output pulses for long-distance transmission. The pulse can be a voltage pulse or a current pulse. However, if the flow meter only provides local display, it does not have this signaling section.
