What is the difference between rubber gaskets and asbestos-rubber gaskets? Is a rubber gasket or asbestos better for general acid-base applications? Is a rubber gasket or an asbestos rubber gasket better for air pipelines?
Asbestos gaskets are rarely used these days; acids require acid-resistant rubber gaskets, while for bases, there seems to be no requirement for acid resistance
I agree with the comment above; generally, asbestos gaskets are not needed. For compressed air and alkalis, metal wound gaskets should be used, while for acids, rubber gaskets or PTFE gaskets can be chosen depending on the situation
