Someone told me how, when establishing the washing cycle for the methanol wash tower in an MTBE plant, the liquid level of the wash water at the top of the tower is determined Can the level gauge at the top of the tower display the wash water level before C4 is introduced? Why?
Before C4 is introduced, it is possible to see the level indicator for water; however, once C4 enters, the level rises significantly depending on its flow rate. Therefore, the level in a pure water environment should be set much lower than the normal level. The exact amount by which it needs to be lowered must be determined based on the amount of C4 fed in. If the level is set too high, it will reach the maximum value immediately upon the introduction of C4, resulting in water being present in the product at the top of the tower. That’s why we usually set the level even lower than that of the glass plate, so that the level cannot be seen.
