As the title suggests, I have worked in the chemical industry for some time and am very interested in working in chemical engineering design. Perhaps there are few opportunities in small-scale industries, but the entire industry is in a downturn these days. I have a degree in chemical engineering processes, and I really want to work in areas related to chemical engineering processes that don’t involve piping work. Are there any good alternatives? I agree with your view. My confusion is: even though I am proficient in various calculation software and have some experience, what kind of positions can I take on? Are there still positions in design institutes that focus solely on chemical engineering calculations? I’m from the small courtyard; I don’t know what those people in the large courtyard are doing
I’ve never encountered anyone in a design institute who does calculations on their own. No matter how well one masters various calculation software, such software is merely a tool for performing calculations during design work. With sufficient experience, and given the large number of such tools available in design institutes, it’s not difficult to learn how to use them and master their techniques. However, what’s more important in engineering design calculations is being able to make accurate judgments based on the results obtained
That makes sense. In some places, separate calculations are still done, but under the current circumstances, if hiring new staff, it is likely to be either recent graduates or experienced professionals with extensive engineering expertise.
Friend, do you work at the Petrochemical Institute or the Electric Power Institute? It seems like you’re an expert in PDMS. Recently, our institute (the Light Industry Institute) has also started using PDMS, but I heard that this software is more commonly used by the Electric Power Institute, while the Petrochemical Institute uses PDS. Do I have to learn PDS on my own?
PDS is about to be phased out; it’s better to go straight for SP3D.
