Recently, there was a leak in the drain valve of the ammonia crystallizer in the acidic water stripping unit; even after filling it with liquid ammonia, the leak persisted. It’s still a dual-valve system – I wonder if anyone has encountered this issue before?
What are the properties of the medium? What model is the valve?
The medium is liquid ammonia, and the valve is a cast-iron ammonia valve; the specific model is unknown.
There is generally no major issue with the valve body; it’s probably a problem with the sealing surface, so it should be replaced with cemented carbide or babbitt.
