Why is the TN effluent volume relatively small?

The total nitrogen standard samples I prepared all fell within the acceptable range, but when analyzing water samples, the values obtained were lower than the sum of the ammonia nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen levels. This happens frequently – what could be the reason?

The potassium persulfate oxidation–ultraviolet spectrophotometry method is used to measure total nitrogen in water; a spectrophotometer or a total nitrogen analyzer can be employed for this analysis. There are many factors that affect the final results. Besides the drugs and reagents, careful attention must be paid when preparing potassium persulfate; the calibration of instruments, as well as the comparison with standard samples, are also very important.
