I have the parameters of a centrifugal pump used in an existing storage tank. The parameter table lists the suction and discharge pressures of the pump, as well as its capacity, both when the tank is full and when it is empty. I’m not quite sure which operating condition should be used for selection – should it be based on the conditions when the tank is full or when it is empty?
It’s not about which one to choose; rather, parameters for two different scenarios need to be provided for selection. Both empty and full containers need to be taken into consideration.
When the tank is full, the design pressure of the pump body must be taken into consideration to ensure that the pressure at the highest liquid level and under maximum pumping pressure is greater than the design pressure of the pump body； When the tank is empty, the main consideration is the pump’s NPSHa to ensure its suction performance. A reminder: what is mentioned above are the main points, not everything. Because it is still necessary to verify the flow rate and pressure after the preliminary selection.
