Asking a friend: Is a static mixer needed when adding antioxidants to diesel? If not, how is the mixing location designed?
It’s not necessary. Currently, additives are added to the tank area through pipeline feeding on a continuous basis. Mixers are only used for oil blending, as high standards are required there; if the mixing is not proper, the oil will separate into layers. With a small amount of additive added, it is not necessary to use a mixer.
Antioxidants are generally added to diesel at the distillation outlet of the unit. If the outlet unit is equipped with a pump, it can be added directly at the pump inlet; if there is no pump at the outlet unit, it is advisable to use a mixer, as this helps to accelerate and ensure uniform mixing with diesel.
