After reviewing several drawings and the design requirements, 100% ultrasonic testing is required for the fillet welds of the plug-in nozzles with DN>250. For carbon steel equipment, this should not be a problem. It was done this way before. However, it is not clear whether ultrasonic testing can be carried out on austenitic stainless steel equipment; some say it is possible, as the new version of NB/T47013.3 has improved various aspects related to ultrasonic testing of austenitic stainless steel. Some say that ultrasonic testing of austenitic stainless steel is very difficult to perform; it’s challenging even for Type AB butt joints, let alone Type D fillet welds. Can the fillet welds of austenitic stainless steel pipe supports be inspected by ultrasonic testing (UT)? Is it difficult to implement for most manufacturing and testing companies?
A description is provided for the butt joints of stainless steel. . As for the fillet weld of the pipe socket for this T-joint, it should not be included. . Well, I think it’s necessary to control quality; RT can be tried out as a way to check for any internal defects that might be harmful, but there’s no need to focus too much on whether the negative is of satisfactory quality or not, or whether the porosity levels are within acceptable limits. . . Just check to see if there are any unfused cracks or something like that. .
