When using SW6 to calculate the tube sheet of a fixed-tube-sheet heat exchanger, no expansion joints are entered as data during the calculation, yet the total axial stiffness value of the expansion joints is shown in the calculation report. Does this mean that expansion joints must be installed in the heat exchanger?
If no expansion joint was entered, how can the overall axial stiffness value of the expansion joint be displayed? Did you modify the original calculation file for the heat exchanger? The original unit had an expansion joint, and you forgot to remove that data from the current calculations. If that’s the case, it is recommended to create a new calculation file. Generally, if an expansion joint is required, the calculation results will indicate the need to include one, and it is necessary to enter the stiffness and elastic modulus of the expansion joint.
