No, mechanical seals generally do not have quality issues as long as they are stored properly. However, the friction surfaces of mechanical seals, especially those made of cemented carbide or those with surfacing layers, tend to rust when exposed to the atmosphere; once rusted, the friction surfaces can no longer engage in perfect friction. Additionally, the sealing rings also develop cracks; this usually occurs after more than 5 years.
The sealing ring can no longer be used after more than five years; there should be no problems elsewhere. Can cemented carbide rust?
