But generally, in many places, this valve is left open most of the time to save trouble; as long as the valve functions properly and is far enough away from the water storage tank so that it can be closed promptly in case of a leak, it’s acceptable. In winter, steam tracing or electric tracing should generally be used in northern regions. If there is no heat tracing system, it’s not safe either for water to enter the cutwater tank.

The spherical tank and the dehydration bag are quite close to each other, with a distance of roughly 2–3 meters. In my opinion, the function of this valve is to allow water from within the spherical tank to flow naturally into the dehydration bag. Therefore, this valve should remain fully open. Once the water level in the dehydration bag reaches a certain level, then the valve between the dehydration bag and the dehydration tank (flash tank) can be opened, so that the water in the dehydration bag can be pushed into the flash tank. During this process, it is necessary to close the valve between the spherical tank and the dehydration bag. There is heat tracing from below the spherical tank to the dehydration package and all the way to the flash tank, so freezing is prevented. If the valve connecting the tank to the dehydration unit is closed, the water inside the tank accumulates at the bottom of it. Since the tank does not have any heating system, the water freezes at the bottom of the tank. This can cause the gasket of the tank valve to be damaged by freezing, thereby **increasing the risk of leakage**. When thawing occurs in spring, this can lead to the leakage of liquefied gas.
