Several storage tanks in our plant are equipped with breather valves, but they are designed with single-flange level gauges; I wonder if these work well
Yes, that’s the case with multiple atmospheric pressure storage tanks.
Does the breather valve open only when a certain pressure is reached? The single-flange level gauge installed in my home is connected to the atmosphere under negative pressure; does the liquid level also rise during the process of pressure increase?
If it is a sealed storage tank, it is recommended that you use a dual-flange differential pressure gauge for measurement

Based on this analysis, assuming the pressure in the tank is less than 2 KPA, using a double-flange LT with a measurement range of 5 meters results in a pressure of approximately 50 KPA, which corresponds to 100% liquid level. So for a single-flange PT gauge showing 52 KPAG, which corresponds to 100% liquid level, the error is only that much. But when the liquid level drops, this error becomes larger. If a low-level alarm is required, it is best to connect the negative pressure chamber as well, making it an LT ; If there is only a high alarm, the original poster’s approach is acceptable. @jiaguoyun
Agreed! Atmospheric pressure is not the same as normal pressure
When using a differential pressure transmitter to measure liquid level, its range is usually only in the range of a few dozen KPa; the pressure at the top of the container has a significant impact. Moreover, devices such as safety valves and nitrogen seals can sometimes be unstable as well. Therefore, unless it is an open-container setup, the low-pressure side of the differential pressure transmitter must be connected to the top of the container.
