In dealing with others, it is necessary to handle two fundamental relationships: one is the relationship with things, and the other is the relationship with people. Managing the relationship with material things means being willing to enjoy limited wealth and adept at controlling unlimited greed. A person who trades his character for material gains, no matter how much wealth he possesses or what high position he holds, cannot be considered successful, because he has abandoned the basic principles of being human. To handle relationships well, it is important to do three things: “see people’s strengths, help them in times of difficulty, and remember their good deeds.”
