At 6:28 p.m. on July 14, in the compression plant of Xinjiang Zhongneng Ammonia and Urea Project, the synthesis gas compressor V4-6/4V-9S, which is a key piece of equipment in the synthesis unit, underwent a trial operation lasting 1 hour and 42 minutes. All performance tests met the technical requirements, resulting in a successful no-load test run on the first attempt. The compression plant under our company’s responsibility is equipped with 3 large compression units driven by steam turbines. This is the first compressor in this facility to undergo no-load testing, and the successful completion of its no-load test laid a solid foundation for the successful testing of the remaining two compressors. During the preparation for the trial run, the project team, the owner, and the equipment manufacturer worked closely together to resolve issues such as unstable oil pressure in the oil injection system and water ingress in the nitrogen pipeline, thereby creating the conditions for a successful first trial operation of the syngas compressor. At 4:08 p.m., at the command of the on-site chief commander of the unit commissioning team, the operators pressed the compressor start button. After 10 minutes of trial operation, everything was normal and the unit was operating well. As requested by the owner, the unit was shut down after 10 minutes of trial operation to conduct further checks on various performance indicators of the unit as well as the operation of its mechanical, process, and instrumentation systems. Once the checks were successful, the unit was restarted at 4:46. After 1 hour and 42 minutes of trial operation and monitoring of various indicators, the no-load test of the unit was completed successfully. The proper operation of the compressor is a prerequisite for the smooth completion of the entire installation. Overcoming challenges such as a tight schedule and high steam temperatures, the project team worked overtime at night and completed tasks including individual testing of the turbine, stress-free installation and alignment, stress relief of the process pipelines, and coupling realignment in just 6 days. The successful no-load test run of this unit is of great significance, providing a solid guarantee for the smooth handover of the compression plant.
