If we were to give titles to safety officers, there would be way too many: they’re like hardworking bees, busy collecting nectar all day long; They are sharp-sighted investigators who can see all potential safety hazards clearly, and spot any violations of rules or regulations at a glance ; It is an all-in-one encyclopedia: knowledgeable in technology, skilled in management, adept at communication, and proficient in financial management ; They are the company’s safety consultants, safety coaches, and safety mentors ; Another public relations expert who handles inspections and receptions... Indeed, being a safety officer is not an easy task, and it requires a lot of effort to do it well. However, being a good safety officer does not mean being an all-rounder; especially in today’s era where everyone is expected to take responsibility for safety, safety officers need to demonstrate another kind of wisdom – namely being \"lazy,\" \"slow,\" and \"incompetent.\" This article will tell us how safety officers can use these three words in as graceful and effective a manner as possible. “The word for “lazy” is “lazy”. Each department must handle its own affairs; safety officers should not be overly diligent. This is to ensure that each department understands and takes on its own responsibility for safety. In my opinion, safety officers have no reason to deprive departments and their staff of the right to assume safety responsibilities. It has been observed that everyone in various departments and positions is aware of the importance of safety, and also has the best understanding of the actual conditions of their own roles. What is lacking is, on the one hand, professional thinking in terms of safety, and on the other hand, the motivation to overcome various unsafe mentalities. If the safety officer does everything personally, how can employees put into practice the safety knowledge they already know? How can one’s own safety awareness be genuinely improved? “The word for “stupid” is “stupid”. There are safety issues in the direct departments, and these departments need to think for themselves first; safety officers shouldn’t always act as teachers. Imagine, if every time a problem arises the safety officer simply provides the answer right away, how can various departments develop the habit of using their own minds and taking action to solve problems? When a problem arises, it is first necessary to ask each department to use its own judgment and take action, thoroughly considering ways to eliminate potential risks – this is the wisdom of safety officers who teach people how to fish. I often assist companies in addressing potential safety hazards; the responsible departments are those that design the measures to fix these issues, purchase the necessary materials, and carry out the work themselves. I usually only provide guidance on GB-related safety requirements and compliance assessments. Imagine if the safety officer had to assist in designing the protective covers, accompany the electrician in purchasing the items needed for repairs, and even take on the role of an electrician himself to carry out those repairs before conducting inspections – not only would the safety officer be overwhelmed, but most importantly, all the responsibilities would fall on his own shoulders; he would be both the coach and the referee, and sometimes even the athlete. Once a problem arises, no matter how many words you have, you can’t explain it clearly. So the safety officer needs to act a bit \"silly\". You can often use this sentence pattern: “You’re more experienced in this area – could you share some initial ideas first?” ”“This still has a few flaws; shall we think of ways to address them together? ”They come in various forms, but share the same goal: encouraging all departments to use their creativity and find solutions. “The word of advice is “slow”. “Slow”. When faced with a problem, don’t rush to speak up or make various arrangements. Remember, that is the job of the top manager or the person in charge of the relevant department. If they aren’t in a hurry, why should you be? Many people still remember the elevator accident that occurred in Jingzhou on July 26, 2015, in which people were trapped inside the elevator. At 21:30 on July 27, a press conference was held in Jingzhou, during which the head of the safety supervision agency stated that it was an accident resulting from negligence. In Teacher Wan’s opinion, the head of the work safety supervision agency acted too quickly, moving ahead of the competent authority—the Market Regulation Department. We know that \"there is no greater joy than that of a father, and no greater sorrow than that of a filial child.\" Our ancestors long ago understood the hierarchical and relational dynamics among various roles in society, and this saying is the most concise summary of that understanding. But in reality, many safety officers often can’t control their impulses; they take the initiative to step into the spotlight on their own, without anyone pushing them, to give interviews, to express their views, and so on. If safety officers are a bit less proactive and don’t do everything for others, then various departments and positions will have the opportunity to assume their own safety responsibilities ; If safety officers are a bit less knowledgeable and not experts in everything, it gives various departments and positions the opportunity to think for themselves ; The safety officer should move more slowly and not rush to step in; this way, each department and position will have the opportunity to experience things for themselves. Of course, behind being \"lazy,\" \"stupid,\" or \"slow,\" what is needed is a smart safety officer who is patient, calm, not overly aggressive, and knows how to motivate those around them to work safely. It is important to know when to show weakness or step back in front of the department, so that the department has room to improve its safety standards. Otherwise, incompetent, slow, and unskilled safety officers will only end up causing chaos in the company’s safety management, rendering themselves completely useless; at that point, such officers are not far from being laid off. “The highest good is like water; water benefits all things without competing. ”Safety officers should not be competitive; rather, they should act like water, putting forward requirements for safety practices to various departments and acting as arbiters, so that corporate safety responsibilities can truly be implemented at every position.
