Perhaps they are not even aware of the impact they have had on me! First and foremost, those I am most grateful to are my parents (not to be sentimental); it is they who gave me life and raised me! They may not be that outstanding themselves, but their love for their children is the most thorough and pure! To this day, I still remember an incident from high school; back then, there were evening study sessions at school, and I was a day student who did not live on campus. Once my bicycle broke down, so I didn’t go home that night and stayed in a classmate’s dormitory. In 2005, high school students basically didn’t have mobile phones, so I didn’t get in touch with my family; at that time I also failed to realize the importance of keeping in touch with them. The next morning, during the early self-study session, my father came to school and asked if anything had happened to me and why I hadn’t gone home I didn’t think much about it at the time; I simply told my father the reason in a casual manner. The father didn’t say much either and just went back. When I got home at night, my mom said to me, \"How can you be so irresponsible? You don’t come home at night and don’t even tell the family!\" Your father stayed up all night last night; since you didn’t return, he first went to your classmate’s house to ask about you, and then went to the school (which was already closed at that time), but the guard wouldn’t let him in. I searched along the route I usually take to school for a long time but couldn’t find anyone; your dad went straight to the traffic accident department to ask around, and it was only a step away from calling the police. After hearing that, I regretted it deeply; I had worried my parents so much. Now that I am a father myself, I can better understand how anxious my father must have been at that time. I am grateful for my parents’ selfless love for me. Secondly, I am grateful to the three teachers I had in high school. In the first year of high school, I got to know the politics teacher from the class next to ours on a personal level. At that time, I had great admiration for No. 1 High School of the city (a provincial key school); it seemed to me like an entity on par with a god. During one of our conversations, this mentor shattered my understanding of this matter. It was just a simple sentence from him, but it was like a thunderbolt to me, awakening me from my obsession with it. Do not mythologize anything; they have their own causes and weaknesses, and they also need to make relentless efforts to achieve their goals. The other two teachers were my English and Chinese teachers in my senior year of high school; they opened the door to the world of languages for me. As a science student, I have always stayed away from Chinese and English, failing to grasp their essentials and even developing a dislike for these two subjects. But influenced by the ideas of these two teachers, I completely changed my mind. The language teacher is a proponent of Daoist philosophy, advocating action through non-action. During lessons, he would never deliver boring explanations of so-called knowledge; instead, he would have everyone read a lot – prose or short stories – so that they could gradually appreciate their essence, and at the end he would only offer a few brief insights to round things out. Perhaps it is this state of relaxation that allowed me to appreciate the beauty of language. The English teacher is a female teacher who is a champion of women’s independence. Her insights are also unique, giving people a sense of clarity and understanding. Perhaps it was the charm of her personality that made me fall in love with English, but it really did happen. Thank you to these three mentors. Once again, I am grateful to my roommates from college. A carefree and natural-minded companion, with an open-mindedness that allows them to remain unperturbed by external circumstances or personal setbacks; they enjoy themselves in their free time and are able to put in the effort when it’s necessary. Throughout my university years, I enjoyed the good times in the first half of my time there; starting in my junior year, I focused hard on studying for the graduate school entrance exams and eventually succeeded in getting into my desired school. Looking at myself, I am far from that standard. His spirit still influences me to this day; thank him. Finally, I would like to thank my wife for taking on the burden of the household for me. Since my workplace is in a remote area, I can’t go home every day. My wife silently takes care of all the household chores; I am grateful for her efforts.
