The distance that the piston travels between its upper and lower dead centers is known as the piston stroke. It equals the rotational diameter of the crankshaft connecting rod portion. It is generally denoted by s, corresponding to one piston stroke and 180° rotation of the crankshaft. The compressor completes one cycle every two piston strokes, with each cycle comprising four processes: expansion, intake, compression, and exhaust.
