Hello everyone, I’ve been thinking about buying a laptop to use at home, mainly for running Aspen and Ansys. Do you have any recommendations? To help you better understand my needs, they are as follows: 1. It’s not for playing games, nor is it mainly used for watching movies or anything similar. Besides simulation, I usually browse websites. 2. It’s better to use a solid-state drive, as I’ve heard that its speed is much higher than that of a mechanical drive. 3. I heard that the 5th generation i7 is better than the 6th generation i7 – is the difference significant? 4. The price should be kept between 8,000 and 10,000. Also, can Aspen and Ansys be installed and run on Apple systems and Microsoft Surface devices? Thank you all

A desktop PC can be used to build a decent workstation; for laptops, SSDs can generally be added later – they’re quite small, and installing one oneself is inexpensive. You can get a mid-range model at this price, right? A few days ago, I gave my nephew a laptop with 3GB of graphics memory, 16GB of RAM, and an i7 processor. I upgraded the 256GB hard drive to use it as the system drive, while keeping the 2TB drive as an additional drive – it’s perfect for mechanical design and running 3D software. These days, CPUs are more than sufficient; there’s no need for more~~~~
It seems to be a configuration that requires a lot of CPU power. . . Just make sure the CPU is decent. . I can’t specify it more precisely because I’m not aware of the actual software usage. . . I feel that if it’s for running software, it would be better to buy a desktop. . .

It’s best to use a virtual machine; installing software on a virtual machine should be better. Using software on a physical machine can easily cause damage over time, requiring reinstallation...
Any laptop with a price around 5,000 can run the software you mentioned; the CPU is more than sufficient for that purpose. An i7H or i7M processor, along with 8GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive, will be more than enough
