To implement the new Work Safety Law and carry out classified management of registered safety engineers, units that produce or store hazardous materials must have registered safety engineers specializing in work safety management. On August 31, 2015, the Registration Management Center for Registered Safety Engineers at the China Academy of Work Safety organized a meeting of experts to develop the syllabus and teaching materials for the national professional qualification exam for registered safety engineers in the field of chemical safety. The authors of the textbook on Chemical Process Safety gave a presentation on aspects such as the writing approach, outline, and main content. Experts from companies such as Sinopec, CNOOC, and Datang Energy Chemicals provided suggestions and recommendations for revising the textbook outline. According to Liu Gongzhi, director of the Registration Management Center for Certified Safety Engineers, the case analysis component that was part of the original Certified Safety Engineer examination will be replaced by a professional practice section, with assessments conducted in specialties such as coal mines, non-coal mines, hazardous materials, engineering construction, and metal metallurgy. It is understood that the newly revised textbook on Chemical Safety is based on the theories of risk identification, assessment, and control. It incorporates international advanced concepts of safety management as well as information on safety testing and monitoring techniques. The topics covered include **basic knowledge of chemicals, safety in chemical processing, equipment safety, electrical safety, safety related to instruments and controls, safety in handling, storage, and transportation, and safety in inspection and maintenance. The Education and Training (Regulations and Standards) Department of the China Chemical Safety Association attended the meeting.
